Message From the President

Well here we are in August already, and I look around and wonder where did the summer go? We here at MPDCI certainly hope your summer is going well, and you are having a great time.
We hope you have taken advantage of the Summer Adventure this year. While lots of families have taken the tickets for the water park or Frankenmuth, there have been some fantastic ideas and choices for the 3rd option. People have gone to zoos, aquariums, museums and many other great places. The only request we have when you take these ‘adventures’ is to send us some pictures so we can live vicariously through you and your family!
We also want to thank our families that took the time last month to write up an online review about MPDCI for a chance to win a grant. The winner was the non-profit organization with the most reviews. And while we did not win, the reviews we received were eye opening and most appreciated. Sometimes when you work with a group of dedicated people and are constantly trying to make deadlines, stretch funds to cover programs and come up with new ideas for serving the CF community, you don’t get a chance to see the fruit of your work. You don’t get to stop and smell the roses…all 65 of them.
When I read through the reviews, it made me stop and realize that we are making a difference in the lives of kids and adults with CF, who are fighting daily, hourly and even every minute of their lives to breathe. It brought tears to my eyes as I read through the reviews, and it made me re-look at MPDCI as a whole and especially the board of directors who work so hard to make that difference.
Think about it, MPDCI is made up of parents and families of CFers, including our adult CFers who bring a whole new insight along with fantastic ideas, and also people from the medical community (RN’s, RT’s, doctors, etc). Then there is the group I really marvel at—the people who serve because they were and still are needed. They have no relatives with CF nor are they part of the medical community, but they saw a need, got involved and continue to stay involved. To all of you in the MPDCI family, no matter what large or small role you play, I say THANK YOU!!! Without you, we would have no MPDCI and the CF community would not have this wonderful resource. I just want you to know that each of you are helping to make a difference!
